history

The cemetery at its current location dates back to 1713, when a plague epidemic set in, from which 79 Weidling residents died in that year alone. Maria Barbara von Mannagetta had a plague cross put up. From 1737 until the Josephine reforms in 1787, a chapel used for processions was in the cemetery.

The playwright Ferdinand Raimund wrote parts of his magic game Moisasur's Zauberfluch in the Weidlinger Friedhof in 1827 , which is reminiscent of a memorial plaque.

The cemetery was expanded in 1895, 1938 and 1976. The morgue was rebuilt in 1955 and consecrated as a cemetery chapel, which was expanded in 1985 to include a small bell tower. The chapel was completely renovated in 1989 and equipped with a new altar cross .
