Katharina Thiersch

Katharina Thiersch (born October 1938 ) is a German preservationist .

Life

The daughter of the city curator of Wiesbaden first studied architecture in Aachen , which she completed with an engineering diploma, and then spent a two-year scholarship at the art history institute in Rome . From 1973 to 2003 she worked in the Hessian monument administration. Most recently she worked as chief curator at the State Office for Monument Preservation Hesse in Marburg .

Thiersch always campaigned for monument protection in Northern Hesse, especially at the Haydau Monastery in Morschen , the Church of the Dead in Schwalmstadt-Treysa or the cathedral in Fritzlar . On her retirement she was awarded the honor plaque of the city of Fritzlar for her services in the renovation of the old town. In 2004 she was awarded the Cross of Merit First Class by the German Federal President Horst Köhler for her special achievements . As retired chief curator, Katharina Thiersch is still active at the association level and is a sought-after guest lecturer and speaker.
