The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Catherine is located in Mellenbach-Glasbach , a district of the Schwarzatal rural community in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district of Thuringia . The parish Melle-Glasbach belongs to the parish area Oberweißbach in Kirchenkreis Rudolstadt-Saalfeld the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

In 1640 the Mellenbach church was destroyed by the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt in 1641 with the help of a trader and businessman. In 1739, all the books, files and documents that were still in existence were destroyed in a parsonage fire. In 1862 the church was closed for a short time due to disrepair and finally demolished in 1888 . Today's neo-Gothic church was built according to plans by building officer Brecht from Rudolstadt. It was inaugurated on October 10, 1889.

The half-timbered church , filled with brick decorative wooden beams, has a church tower in the west, the first two floors of which are stone-facing. Above that, the tower is slated . In this part there are superimposed biforias as sound arcades and the tower clock . An eight-sided pointed helmet sits on it . To the east of the nave, which is provided with a slate-covered gable roof , is the drawn-in choir with a straight end. The interior partially has an open roof structure . The church furnishings , such as the carved wood altar , are from the construction period. The lead glass windows have been preserved in the original.
