Changchun Cathedral
The Catholic St. Theresa Cathedral in Changchun , the capital of Jilin Province in the northeast of the People's Republic of China , was built in 1930.
history
A French priest founded the Catholic community in Changchun in 1895. The St. The cathedral dedicated to Therese von Lisieux was built to replace a smaller previous building.
The Chinese state banned the Catholic Church from 1969 to 1979 and used the building as a storage room. In 1979 the structure was damaged by fire.
In 2007 the church was extensively renovated and then solemnly consecrated .
architecture
The neo-Gothic building made of burnt gray brick is 35 meters long and 13 meters wide. It is provided with gables , friezes , tracery windows and ornaments. The church has three naves , a transept and a polygonal choir . The tower rises above the north portal.
