The Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Succor ( Alb. Katedralja e Zonjës Ndihmëtare ) in Prizren ( Kosovo ) is a Roman Catholic parish church and the Episcopal Church of the built in 2000 as the Apostolic Administration of Prizren and 2018 for the diocese collected diocese Prizren-Pristina .

history

The church was built in 1870 under Ottoman rule for the predominantly Albanian-speaking Roman Catholic minority and Catholic foreigners in Prizren. It was named after the Roman miraculous image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help . When the exemte Apostolic Administration of Prizren was established in 2000 from the Kosovar parts of the Diocese of Skopje-Prizren , St. Mary's Church became their cathedral. Co-cathedral is the great Mother Teresa Cathedral in Pristina , consecrated in 2010 , the architecture of which is closely based on the Cathedral of Prizren.

Architecture and equipment

The Marienkathedrale is a neo - Romanesque three-aisled basilica with a round apse in the southeast and a slender bell tower on the left aisle. The entire building, especially the portal facade in Renaissance forms , follows Italian models.

The pillars of the interior are covered with marble . The frescoes show biblical themes as well as depictions of the military leaders Skanderbeg and Johann Hunyadi .
