Kathrin Weiher

Kathrin Weiher (born September 23, 1962 in Braunschweig ) is a non-party German local politician .

Life

After graduating from the High School Little Castle in Braunschweig studied pond in the Master's degree program majoring in sociology and a minor in Law at the University of Göttingen . She obtained two academic degrees as a qualified gerontologist from the University of Vechta and as a qualified diaconal scientist from the University of Heidelberg . After graduating, she worked in leading positions in the diakonia . Weiher later switched to public administration and became first district councilor in the district of Goslar , where she took over the office of District Administrator Stephan Manke, who was appointed Lower Saxony State Secretary, until the election of a new District Administrator on June 2nd , 2013 .

On January 1, 2015 she was elected Senator for Culture and Education of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck. The citizens of Lübeck elected her First Deputy Mayor in March 2017.

In 2016, Weiher was nominated by several parliamentary groups for direct election as mayor of Lübeck on November 5, 2017; the incumbent Bernd Saxe did not stand for re-election. In the runoff election on November 19, 2017, Kathrin Weiher was defeated by Jan Lindenau (SPD) with 49.1% of the votes cast after she won a relative majority of 35.2% of the votes in the first ballot.
