Katrin Sommer

Katrin Antje Sommer (* 1971 in Leipzig ) is a German chemical didactic and holds the chair for chemical didactics at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Life

In 1990 Katrin Sommer began her high school teaching degree for chemistry and biology at the University of Leipzig , which she graduated with the first state examination in 1995 . In 1997 she completed her legal clerkship at Engelsdorf grammar school with a doctorate in didactics of chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg on "Substitutes for main nutrients - new impulses from food chemistry for modern chemistry lessons - illustrated using the example of inulin " and this from 2000. This was followed by a postdoc at the General Association of the Aluminum Industry until 2001, followed by a habilitation in the summer of 2004 . The title of her habilitation thesis was "From initial lessons to university internship - specialist methods in chemistry as guideline (s)". In parallel to her habilitation, she worked as a temporary teacher at the Ehrenbürg Gymnasium and the Pirckheimer Gymnasium in Nuremberg . In the summer of 2004 she initially represented the professorship for didactics of chemistry at the Ruhr University in Bochum, until she took over the professorship in September 2004. She turned down an offer from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and has been a W3 professor in Bochum since 2011.

Research areas

The working group around Katrin Sommer deals, among other things, with investigations for the understanding of technical methods and model experiments. The excellent teaching and learning project Kemie emerged from this work .
