Katsuaki Asai

Katsuaki Asai ( Japanese 浅井 勝 昭 , Asai Katsuaki ; born February 18, 1942 in the Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese Aikidō teacher in Germany. He has the 8th Aikidō- Dan and the title of Shihan , i.e. a teacher and examiner, from Aikikai Tokyo. He came to Germany in 1965 as a delegate of the Aikikai World Association to teach and spread Aikidō in Germany.

Life

Growing up in the neighborhood of Aikikai Honbu Dōjō in Tokyo, Katsuaki Asai began to train Aikidō at the age of 13. Asai came to Germany for the first time at the age of 23 and graduated with the 4th Dan. To spread Aikidō, Katsuaki Asai was sent to West Germany in 1965 by Kisshōmaru Ueshiba , son of Aikidō founder Ueshiba Morihei and at that time head of Aikikai Honbu Dōjō. His first destination was Münster . In 1967 Katsuaki Asai founded the Aikikai Germany - Professional Association for Aikido eV (member of the International Aikido Federation (IAF), European Aikido Federation (EAF), professional association recognized by Aikikai Honbu Dōjō Tōkyō / Japan) and opened his first own Dōjō in Düsseldorf in 1972 . He is the representative of the Aikikai Foundation (Zaidan hōjin aikikai) for Germany. At the age of 55, he received the 8th Dan Aikikai in early 1997.

His influences as an Aikidoka include O Sensei, his son Kisshōmaru Ueshiba , his Sempai Hiroshi Tada and Yasuo Kobayashi , and his long-time Aikidō colleague Masamichi Noro . Asai's Aikido style is characterized by spacious movements and precise forms.

As national trainer of the Aikikai Germany e. V. Katsuaki travels on weekends through Germany and Europe to teach Aikidō on regional courses.
