The mountain is located in the south-eastern part of the Schweinfurt district in Lower Franconia , right on the border with the Kitzingen district . Like the Schloßberg and Schwanberg, the mountain protrudes from the upstream Main Franconia . This makes the mountain look very distinctive, especially from the west side. The mountain is heavily forested, especially on the western slopes. The mountain can be reached via the SW 50 and KT 47 roads . The Katzenbergpass is one of the highest passes in the Steigerwald.
