The Kauaeranga River is a 31 km long river on the Coromandel Peninsula in the Waikato region on the North Island of New Zealand .

The Kauaeranga River has its source in the Coromandel Range on the north flank of the 759  m high mountain known as The Pinnacles and a destination for many hikers. From there, the river flows after a short swivel in a south-westerly direction before it joins the Firth of Thames south of the city center of Thames . The Kauaeranga River is 31.2 km long and has a drainage area of ​​129 km 2 . Tributaries with a total length of 155 km carry the water to it.

In the upper part of the Kauaeranga Valley , in the Coromandel Forest Park, there are several campsites on the sides of the river run by the Department of Conservation (DOC).

Rainbow trout can be fished in the river almost along its entire length .
