Kaviar Gauche is a German fashion house based in Berlin . It was founded in 2004 by the designers Alexandra Roehler and Johanna Kühl .

history

Alexandra Roehler and Johanna Kühl met while studying fashion design. Roehler's final collection was honored with a presentation at the “Moet & Chandon Fashion Debut” in 2003. Kühl gained her first practical experience at Vivienne Westwood in London and then assisted Martine Sitbon in Paris. In order to present their first joint collection, they rented an apartment on Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris and in 2003 held a so-called guerrilla fashion show in the rented rooms parallel to Fashion Week . In doing so, they drew the attention of the head buyer and trend scout of the American clothing chain Barneys New York . With the naming of their label, the founders cite the "gauche caviar", as Jean-Paul Sartre called the French jet set, who, bored of the luxury life, turned to the ideas of the 1968 movement .

Her fashion initially found recognition abroad. In September 2006 they received the “Visionary Award” in London. This was followed by the nomination for the “Swiss Textile Award” in Zurich. By winning the “New Generation Fashion Award” at the Berlin Fashion Week 2007, they achieved their national breakthrough. The magazine Stern selected the duo Kaviar Gauche 2007 among the "10 most important German fashion designers".

Kaviar Gauche has been presenting the latest collection on the fashion week catwalk once a year since 2005. Four years later, the label presented the first Bridal Couture Collection at Fashion Week in Berlin. In March 2013 Kaviar Gauche showed the Bridal Couture Collection for the first time at the Paris Fashion Week. Since then, they have been presenting their current Bridal Couture Collection in Paris once a year - during Spring / Summer Fashion Week.
