Kawaji Toshiatsu ( Japanese 川 路 利 恭 , first name also read Toshiyasu , former family name Godai ( 五代 ); born May 11, 1856 in Satsuma province ; died January 12, 1925 ) was a senior Japanese official of the Meiji period .

Life

Kawaji Toshiatsu, son of a samurai from Satsuma , was adopted by Kawaji Toshiyoshi , the "father of the Japanese police ". He began his professional career in the Ministry of the Interior and stayed from 1887 to 1890 to study law in France and Germany . He then headed the Shiga Prefecture Police Headquarters from 1893 to 1895 and had posts in the Tokyo Prefecture Police Headquarters , the Keishi-cho . He later served as governor of Gifu , Nara , Kumamoto and Fukuoka prefectures in succession .
