Kazu Huggler

Kazu Huggler (* 1970 in Tokyo ) is a Swiss - Japanese fashion designer and founder of the fashion label KAZU.

Born in Tokyo as the daughter of a Japanese woman and a Swiss man , Kazu Huggler got to know the cultures of both countries as a child. After completing her federal Matura in Zurich , she studied Japanese art history and aesthetics at Keio University in Tokyo.

Huggler gained his first professional experience in marketing at the Zurich silk house Fabric Frontline. During this time she decided to launch her own clothing line. She attended the Zurich University of Design and finally did her doctorate in London at Central Saint Martins . During her studies she was an intern at Vivienne Westwood .

The fashion label KAZU, founded in 2003, is heavily influenced by historical Japanese textile design and the nature of traditional Japanese clothing . They are manufactured exclusively in Switzerland , in KAZU's in-house studio in Zurich.

Kazu Huggler presents her couture creations in art museums . She celebrated the 10th anniversary of her label with a fashion show in the Nezu Museum in Tokyo. To mark the 150th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland, a fashion talk and a fashion show took place in the residence of the Swiss ambassador in Tokyo . The Imperial Highness Empress Michiko was among the guests. In Zurich, Kazu Huggler's creations were presented in the Museum Bellerive (2013), Haus Konstruktiv (2015), Museum Rietberg (2016) and as part of the Zurich Festival in the Kunsthaus Zürich (2018)

After the great earthquake in northern Japan in 2011 , Huggler founded the NPO Three Cranes Association. The Three Cranes Association supports and promotes local reconstruction through joint sewing projects with residents in Rikuzentakata .

Kazu Huggler lives in Zurich with her husband and children.
