Leo Cornelis "Kees" Vlaardingerbroek (born June 9, 1962 in Ermelo , Netherlands ) is a Dutch musicologist, artistic director of the NTR ZaterdagMatinee (a Saturday afternoon concert series in the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) ), as well as the other concert series of the Dutch public broadcaster ( Nederlandse Publieke Omroep , NPO), the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra ( Radio Filharmonisch Orkest ) and the Netherlands Radio Choir.

life and work

Kees Vlaardingerbroek completed his master's degree in musicology at the Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht (today: Universiteit Utrecht ) in 1986. In the minor subjects he studied art history , Italian and philosophy . From 1986 to 1987 he conducted research at the Collegio dei Fiamminghi in Bologna . He worked as a music journalist and translator from Italian, French, English and German, wrote for the magazines Vrij Nederland and Luister and was part of the editorial team at Mens en Melodie . He was also a music critic for the daily newspaper Het Parool for several years. His research in the field of Italian and Dutch music history resulted in scientific articles in Music & Letters, Studi vivaldiani and Recercare, among others . In collaboration with Rudolf Rasch he published the book Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer. Componist en staatsman ( Zutphen , 1993).

After working as a radio programmer and editor at VARA -Matinee (today: NTR ZaterdagMatinee) (1990–1996), Kees Vlaardingerbroek was a programmer-producer of classical music concerts for Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep (1996–1998). From 1998 to 2006 he was head of programming and artistic director at the Concert and Congress Center de Doelen in Rotterdam . There he was responsible for around 250 concerts that de Doelen organizes independently every year. The 150 classical concerts were programmed by him personally.

Since March 1, 2006, Kees Vlaardingerbroek has been artistic director of the concert series of the Dutch public service broadcaster and programmer of the NTR ZaterdagMatinee, a Saturday afternoon concert series at the Koninklijk Concertgebouw in Amsterdam . These concerts will be broadcast live on Radio 4 (Netherlands) . Around a quarter of the concerts are taken over and broadcast by the NTR for television.

In August 2013, the Levende Muziek (live music) department of Radio 4 (NTR and AVROTROS ) and the orchestra and choir of the Radio Music Center (Muziekcentrum van de Omroep , MCO) merged to form the Radio Music Foundation ( Stichting Omroep Muziek , SOM). Since then, Kees Vlaardingerbroek has been the artistic director of this organization. His existing function was expanded to include artistic responsibility for the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Choir ( Groot Omroepkoor , GOK).
