Keith Newton (born April 10, 1952 in Liverpool , United Kingdom ) is a former Bishop of Richborough of the Church of England and since 2011 a Roman Catholic clergyman and Ordinary of the Staff Ordinary of Our Lady of Walsingham .

Life

Keith Newton studied at King's College London and Canterbury Christ Church University, and completed his theological studies at St Augustine's College Canterbury . From 1975 to 1978 he served in the Great Ilford St. Mary Ward in Chelmsford and from 1978 to 1985 Vicar of St. Matthew's Wimbledon in the Wimbledon Team Ministry in Southwark. In 1985 he became rector of Blantyre, Malawi and later dean of Blantyre Cathedral. After serving as Resident Clergyman and Vicar at Holy Nativity Knowle , Bristol from 1991 to 2001, he became Resident Clergyman at All Hallows , Easton in 1997 . From 1995 to 1998 Keith Newton was Rural Dean of Brislington and from 1998 to 2001 Area Dean of the New Deanery of Bristol South .

Keith Newton was named Bishop of Richborough in 2002. This office was created in 1995 to exercise the episcopal functions in those parishes in the Anglican Church Province of Canterbury that do not recognize the ordination of women .

Since 2008 he has been in contact with the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith . On November 8, 2010, he announced his resignation from the Church of England and entry into the Catholic Church.

Keith Newton is married to Gill Donnison and has three children.

Conversion to the Catholic Church

Keith Newton converted from the Anglican Church to the Roman Catholic Church on January 1, 2011 with John Broadhurst and Andrew Burnham and their wives . On January 13, 2011 he was ordained deacon by Alan Stephen Hopes , Auxiliary Bishop in Westminster . On January 15, 2011 he was ordained a Catholic priest in Westminster Cathedral by the Primate of England and Wales and Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Gerard Nichols and at the same time as Ordinary of the by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed by the staff ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham . He exercises this office without episcopal ordination, since celibacy is not possible for bishops. However, he has received permission to wear a miter , pectoral cross and ring as well as a bishop 's staff in worship . On March 17, 2011 he was welcomed by Pope Benedict XVI. Appointed apostolic protonotary (honorary) with the right to wear prelate clothing outside of worship. He currently resides (2015) in the former Bavarian Legation, London, Golden Square No. 24, at the rear of the Warwick Street Church that is connected to it .
