Kelapa Lima ( German  Five Coconuts ) is a district ( Kecamatan ) in the Indonesian city ​​of Kupang ( East Nusa Tenggara Province ).

geography

Kelapa Lima is located on the southern bank of the Kupang Bay . To the west is the Alak district and the Oebobo district to the south . In the east, Kelapa Lima borders the government district ( Kabupaten ) Kupang .

Kelapa Lima has an area of ​​15.02 km², is 50  m above sea level and is divided into five Kelurahan ( German  villages ): Kelapa Lima in the west, east of it Westoesapa (Oesapa Barat) , in the center Oesapa , south of it Südoesapa (Oesapa Selatan) and Lasiana in the east . South Oesapa is the smallest of them with 0.77 km², while Lasiana has 5.23 km². In terms of area size, Oesapa follows with 4.83 km², Kelapa Lima with 2.57 km² and Westoesapa with 1.62 km².

The climate is tropical. Temperatures of up to 35 ° C can be reached. The annual rainfall is 960 mm. Most rain falls in December and January.

The ground consists of rocks and red or white earth. Papyrus , coconut palms and teak trees grow here .

Residents

In 2016, 78,850 people (40,999 men and 37,851 women) lived in Kelapa Lima. The population density is 5,249.67 inhabitants per square kilometer. In 2010 there were only 61,411 inhabitants. They live in 21,073 households in 167 neighborhoods (Tetangga) .

There are four Catholic churches, 26 Protestant churches and five mosques in Kelapa Lima.

Various farm animals are kept in Kelapa Lima: cattle for meat production, water buffalo, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and ducks. Wet rice is planted on 37 hectares. There is also corn (on 8 hectares), water spinach (6 hectares), peanuts (1 hectare) and cassava (2 hectares) and various types of fruit, such as mangos, bananas, papayas, avocados, star fruit, guavas, apples, jackfruit, sawo and Prickly annons .

Public facilities

In Kelapa Lima there are three police stations (two in Oesapa and one in Westoesapa), 15 elementary schools, six junior high schools, ten senior high schools and twelve colleges and universities. A health center, 40 mother and child centers and four village health centers take care of health care.
