Alak is a district ( Kecamatan ) in the Indonesian city ​​of Kupang ( East Nusa Tenggara Province ).

geography

Alak is located on the southern bank of the Kupang Bay , to the west of the city of Kupang. In the south is the Maulafa district and in the east the Kelapa Lima and Oebobo districts . To the west and south, Alak also borders the Westkupang District (Kupang Barat), which is part of the government district ( Kabupaten ) Kupang .

Alak has an area of ​​86.91 km² and rises from the seashore to a height of 250  m above sea level in the south. The district is divided into twelve Kelurahan ( German  villages ): Alak in the northwest, Naioni in the south, Penkase Oeleta , Batuplat and Manulai II in the center and in the northeast Manutapen , Mantasi , Fatufeto , Nunhila , Nunbaun Delha , Nunbaun Sabu and Namosain . Mantasi is the smallest of them with 0.12 km², while Naioni has 35.75 km². In terms of area size then follow Manulai II with 19.74 km², Alak with 9.31 km², Pekase Oeleta with 9.12 km², Batuplat with 7.54 km², Namosain with 2.16 km², Manutapen with 1.15 km², Nunbaun Sabu with 0.72 km², Nunbaun Delha with 0.51 km², Fatufeto with 0.41 km² and Nunhila with 0.38 km².

The climate is tropical. Temperatures of up to 35 ° C can be reached. The annual rainfall is 960 mm. Most rain falls in December and January.

The ground consists of rocks and red or white earth. Papyrus , coconut palms and teak trees grow here .

Residents

In 2016 there were 62,090 people in Alak (31,607 men and 30,183 women). The population density is 714.42 inhabitants per square kilometer. In 2010 there were only 51,230 inhabitants. They live in 21,073 households in 275 neighborhoods (Tetangga) .

Alak has five Catholic churches, 54 Protestant churches, 18 mosques, and one Hindu temple.

economy

Various farm animals are kept in Alak: cattle for meat production, water buffalo, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and ducks. Wet rice is planted on 80 hectares and dry rice on 29 hectares. There is also corn (on 110 hectares), water spinach (52 hectares), peanuts (45 hectares) and cassava (43 hectares), spinach, cabbage, beans, tomatoes, aubergines, cucumbers and various types of fruit such as mangoes, bananas, papayas, avocados, starfruit, jackfruit, Salak and Soursop (Sirsak) .

Public facilities

Alak has five police stations and twelve security posts, 24 elementary schools, six junior high schools and seven senior high schools. Health care is provided by a hospital, two health centers, 75 mother-and-child centers and twelve village health centers.
