West Kupang ( Indonesian Kupang Barat ) is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the southwest of the government district of Kupang in the province of East Nusa-Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) , at the transition from the Timor Sea in the south to the Sawu Sea and the Bay of Kupang in the north. Opposite is the island of Semau . In the east, West Kupang borders the Nekamese district and the city of Kupang , with its Alak district .
West Kupang has an area of 149.72 km² and is divided into the ten Desa Tablolong , Lifuleo , Tesabela , Sumlili , Oematnunu , Kuanheun , Bolok , Nitneo , Manulai I and Oenaek and the two Kelurahan Batake and Oenesu . The administrative headquarters are in Batake. The territory of the district extends to an altitude of about 350 m . As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season .

Residents
In 2017 there were 18,715 inhabitants in West Kupang. 9733 were men, 8982 women. The population density was 125 people per square kilometer. 576 people professed the Catholic faith, 16,905 were Protestants and 685 people were Muslim. There were two Catholic and 53 Protestant churches and five mosques in the district.
Economy, infrastructure and transport
Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (7655), horses (21), buffaloes (eight), pigs (4754), goats (3794), ducks (869) and chickens (6843) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 695 hectares, 700 hectares of rice, twelve hectares of cassava, 500 hectares of peanuts and eight hectares of green beans. You can also harvest red onions, cabbage, mustard, tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, bananas, mangoes, papayas, jackfruits, coconuts, kapok , areca nuts, cashew nuts and lontar . There is also fishing.
There are four kindergartens, 20 elementary schools, eight middle schools and seven secondary schools in West Kupang. A community health center ( Puskesmas ) in Batakte and eleven medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ) are available for medical care . Two doctors, 24 midwives and 13 nurses work in the district
71.03 kilometers of roads are paved. 108.9 kilometers of roads are covered with gravel. Simple clay slopes in the district have a length of 48.9 kilometers. Public transport is operated by 23 minibuses, 102 pick-ups, 51 trucks, 132 motorcycles and one other vehicle.
