Central Cupang ( Indonesian Kupang Tengah ) is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the south of the government district of Kupang in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) , on the south bank of the Bay of Kupang . To the east is the Ostkupang (Kupang Timur) district , Taebenu to the south and the city of Kupang with the Kelapa Lima and Maulafa districts to the west .

Central Cupang has an area of ​​94.79 km² and is divided into the seven Desa Oelnasi , Oelpuah , Oebelo , Noelbaki , Ostpenfui (Penfui Timur) , Mata Air and Tanah Merah and the Kelurahan Tarus . The territory increases noticeably. Oelnasi is at an altitude of over 170  m . As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season . The landscape is characterized by cultivated fields, plantations and forests.

Residents

In 2017, 50,318 people lived in Central Cupang. 25,964 were men and 24,354 women. The population density was 94.79 people per square kilometer. 11,874 people professed the Catholic faith, 29,316 were Protestants and 1,109 people were Muslim. There were eleven Catholic and 37 Protestant churches and five mosques in the district.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (13,257), horses (41), buffalos (20), pigs (16,370), goats (6198), ducks (502) and chickens (18,324) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 403 hectares, rice on 1205.1 hectares, cassava on 145 hectares and peanuts on 50 hectares. In addition to harvest red onions, cabbage, mustard, tomatoes, bananas, mangoes, papayas, watermelons, coconuts, kapok , light nuts , Arecanüsse , cashews, Lontar and nutmeg.

In Central Cupang there are nine kindergartens, 20 elementary schools, twelve middle schools and eleven secondary schools. A municipal health center ( Puskesmas ) in Tarus, seven medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ) and two midwifery centers ( Polindes ) are available for medical care . There are three doctors, 22 midwives and 18 nurses in the district.

44.5 kilometers of roads are paved. 90.3 kilometers of roads are covered with gravel. Simple clay slopes in the district have a length of 60.9 kilometers. Public transport is operated by 35 minibuses, 65 pick-ups, 37 trucks, two buses and 321 motorcycles.
