Westfatuleu ( Indonesian Fatuleu Barat ) is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

Westfatuleu

Location in East Nusa Tenggara Province

The district is located in the west of the government district of Kupang in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) , on the banks of the Sawu Sea . In the north is the district of Westamfoang Daya (Amfoang Barat Daya) , northeast of South Amfoang (Amfoang Selatan) , to the east of Takari and Central Fatuleu (Fatuleu Tengah) and to the south of Sulamu .

Westfatuleu has an area of ​​496.47 km² and is divided into the five Desa Kalali , Poto , Naitae , Nuataus and Tuakau , all of which are below 100  m above sea level . The administrative headquarters are in Barate (Poto). As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season .

Residents

In 2017 there were 9,618 inhabitants in Westfatuleu. 4,847 were men, 4,771 women. The population density was 19 people per square kilometer. 190 people professed to be Catholic, 9421 were Protestants, six people were Muslim and one was Hindu. There were two Catholic and 22 Protestant churches in the district.

Economy, infrastructure and transport

Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (29,445), horses (520), buffalos (367), pigs (19,683), goats (2606), ducks (86) and chickens (9239) are kept as pets. Corn is grown on 986 hectares, rice on 202.9 hectares, cassava on 39 hectares, sweet potatoes on 15 hectares, peanuts on 100 hectares and green beans on 17 hectares. In addition to harvest red onions, garlic, mustard, tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, bananas, mangoes, papayas, jackfruit, avocado, pineapple, coconut, kapok , light nuts , Arecanüsse , cashews and Lontar .

In Westfatuleu there is a kindergarten, ten elementary schools, five middle schools and two secondary schools. A community health center ( Puskesmas ) in Poto and five medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ) are available for medical care .

Public transport is operated by 27 pick-ups, 14 trucks and 68 motorcycles.
