Nekamese is an Indonesian district ( Kecamatan ) in the west of the island of Timor .

The district is located in the south of the government district of Kupang in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (Nusa Tenggara Timur) on the coast of the Timor Sea . In the west lies the district Westkupang (Kupang Barat) , in the east Westamarasi (Amarasi Barat) and in the northeast Taebenu . In the north, Nekamese borders on the city of Kupang with its districts Alak and Maulafa .
Nekamese has an area of 122.44 km² and is divided into the eleven Desa Bone , Taloetan , Usapi Sonbai , Oepaha , Tasikona , Oenif , Oemasi , Oelomin , Tunfeu , Oben and Besmarak . The territory rises to an altitude of about 180 m . As in Timor, the tropical climate is divided into a rainy and a dry season . The landscape is dominated by cypress trees.
Residents
In 2017 there were 9,918 inhabitants in Nekamese. 4967 were men, 4851 women. The population density was 80 people per square kilometer. 934 people professed their Catholic faith, 9709 were Protestants, 24 people were Muslim and six were Hindu. There were five Catholic and 40 Protestant churches in the district.
Economy, infrastructure and transport
Most of the district's residents make a living from agriculture. Cattle (2312), horses (six), buffalos (three), pigs (2576), goats (1695) and chickens (17,034) are kept as pets. Maize is grown on 805.9 hectares, rice on 98.7 hectares, cassava on 149.0 hectares, peanuts on 79.0 hectares and green beans on four hectares. In addition to harvest red onions, mustard, tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, bananas, mangoes, papayas, jackfruit, avocado, Soursop , coconuts, cocoa, kapok , light nuts , Arecanüsse , cashews, Lontar and nutmeg.
In Nekamese there are three kindergartens, 13 elementary schools, six middle schools and two secondary schools. A communal health center ( Puskesmas ) in Oemasi and ten medical care centers ( Puskesmas Pembantu ) are available for medical care . Two doctors, 19 midwives and 14 nurses work in the district.
60.5 kilometers of roads are paved. 91.79 kilometers of roads are covered with concrete slabs. Simple clay slopes in the district have a length of 36.2 kilometers. Public transport is operated by two minibuses, 34 pick-ups, 23 trucks, and 36 motorcycles.
