Maulafa is a district ( Kecamatan ) in the Indonesian city ​​of Kupang ( East Nusa Tenggara Province ).

geography

Maulafa is located in the southeast of the city of Kupang. In the north are the districts Kelapa Lima , Kota Raja and Oebobo , to the west the district Alak . In the south and east, Maulafa borders the government district ( Kabupaten ) Kupang .

Maulafa has an area of ​​54.80 km² and rises from the seashore to a height of 250  m above sea level in the south.

The district is divided into nine Kelurahan ( German  villages ): Fatukoa is in the southwest , Penfui and Kolhua in the east, Naimata , Maulafa , Oepura and Naikolan in the north and Sikumana and Bello in the center . Naikolan is the smallest of them with 0.82 km², while Fatukoa has 15.71 km². In terms of area size, Kolhua follows with 10.75 km², Penfui with 9.30 km², Bello with 5.61 km², Naimata with 4.88 km², Sikumana with 3.36 km², Maulafa with 2.70 km² and Oepura with 1 , 67 km².

The climate is tropical. Temperatures of up to 35 ° C can be reached. The annual rainfall is 960 mm. Most rain falls in December and January.

The ground consists of rocks and red or white earth. Papyrus , coconut palms and teak trees grow here .

Residents

In 2016, 75,459 people (38,455 men and 37,004 women) lived in Maulafa. The population density is 1,376.90 inhabitants per square kilometer. In 2010 there were only 65,851 inhabitants. They live in 16,523 households in 281 neighborhoods (Tetangga) .

There are eight Catholic churches, 66 Protestant churches, five mosques and two Hindu temples in Maulafa.

economy

Various farm animals are kept in Maulafa: cattle for meat production, water buffalo, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens and ducks. Wet rice is planted on 183 hectares and dry rice on five hectares. There is also corn (273 hectares), peanuts (58 hectares), peas, cassava (89 hectares), shallots, cabbage, beans, tomatoes, chilli, water spinach (14 hectares), spinach (12 hectares), carrots and eggplants and various Fruits such as mangoes, bananas, papayas, avocados, star fruit, apples, jackfruits and sawo .

Maulafa has nine police stations and nine security posts, 17 elementary schools, seven junior high schools, six senior high schools and two universities. Two hospitals, two health centers, 78 mother and child centers and 13 other facilities take care of health care.

The airport Kupang is located in Penfui.
