The Kelsbaach is a three and a half kilometer long, western and left tributary of the Moselle in the Luxembourg canton of Grevenmacher .
geography
course
The Kelsbaach rises at a height of 289 m in Gutland in the area of the Grevenmacher im Houwald district . The source is in the forest reserve Oberdonven-Houwald .
The stream initially flows, gently meandering , about three hundred meters south-southwest through a mixed forest of oaks and beeches and then changes to the east. Almost 150 m down the stream, another spring branch strengthens it on its left.
The Kelsbaach is now heavily straightened and continues eastwards through the wooded Scheedergrond and then runs into a green strip with first an extensive hay meadow and then a marsh marigold meadow . A little later, the Scheissbaach, coming from the north, flows from the left . The Kelsbaach now changes to the south and is then fed north of the Scheederwiss on the right-hand side by an unnamed forest stream. The Kelsbaach now enters the open corridor, then, accompanied by wood, runs southeast through farmland and then crosses under the CR 143 . The stream now flows eastwards, then north-eastwards through fields and meadows, partly dry lime grass with particularly orchid-rich stands of the Kelsbaach nature reserve . It is accompanied by a thick strip of trees that is spreading more and more into a forest. He then squeezes through a narrow wooded valley with limestone cliffs and the corresponding crevice vegetation. The valley is part of Natura 2000 - Habitat Greivenmaacherbierg .
The Kelsbaach now runs south of the vineyard parcels , crosses under the N.10 and finally flows north of the Wormeldingen district of Machtum at a height of 139 m from the left into the Moselle, which is last approaching from the south .
Catchment area
The approximately 4 km² catchment area of the Kelsbaach lies in Gutland and is drained to the North Sea via the Moselle and the Rhine .
It will
- in the north of Gehaansbaach
- in the south of the Donwerbach
- and in the northwest of the Fluessweilerbach
limited.
Most of the catchment area is forested; fields and meadows predominate only in the southeast. The highest point is the 300.7 m high Gillingerhéicht .
Tributaries
- Scheissbaach ( left ), 1.5 km
geology
The source area of the Kelsbaach lies in the stone marlkeuper with layers of gypsum and calcite. The middle course is characterized by Pseudomorphosenkeuper and Lettenkeuper . The lower course lies in the boundary layers and ceratite layers and the trochite layers, the direct mouth area in the anthydrite group of the shell limestone .
