Kelso is the county seat of Cowlitz County in the south of the US -amerikanischen state of Washington . The city has a population of 12,188 and is located east of Longview .
history
The first known residents of today's urban area were the Cowlitz tribe . In 1855 the Europeans counted over 6,000 Indians here.
The town was founded in 1884 by Peter W. Crawford, who named it after his hometown of Kelso in Scotland . In the early years, the city was nicknamed Little Chicago because of the high density of pubs and brothels. At the weekend, the town was visited by the region's loggers for women, alcohol and gambling.

Kelso is located on Interstate 5 48 miles north of Portland and 125 miles south of Seattle . It's 80 miles to the Pacific Ocean .
