Kenneth Utt

Kenneth Utt (born July 13, 1921 in Winston-Salem , North Carolina , † January 19, 1994 in New York City ) was an American film producer.

Life

Utt studied at Elon College in North Carolina. He then received a scholarship to the Juilliard School . Utt wanted to be an opera singer.

Utt served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II . After the war he went to New York and worked as an actor for theater, radio, television and film. Utt started working as a stage manager on Broadway and then went to television as a production manager and producer in the early 1960s. From the transition to the 1970s, he was also involved as a producer in motion pictures, initially as an associate producer. Utt continued to work as a production manager.

Starting with Dangerous Girlfriend from 1986, he produced several films for director Jonathan Demme . The highlight of this collaboration was the multiple Oscar- winning film The Silence of the Lambs from 1991.

In 1992 he was awarded the Oscar in the category of best film together with Edward Saxon and Ron Bozman for the production of The Silence of the Lambs . They also received the Directors Guild of America Award . The producers of the film were each honored as Motion Picture Producer of the Year. Utt had played a minor supporting role as a pathologist in this film.

Utt died of bone cancer on January 19, 1994 at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City ( Manhattan ) at the age of 72.

Utt was married to Angie Utt and had two children: son Tim Utt and daughter Robin Utt Fajardo.
