The Wunderland Kalkar (until the beginning of 2005 Kernwasser-Wunderland ) is a leisure center that was built in 1995 on the area of the fast breeder in Kalkar , which never went into operation . Parts of the facility are a congress center with 20 meeting rooms and the family amusement park Kernie's family park . The owner is the Dutch entrepreneur Hennie van der Most, who bought the nuclear power plant, which was abandoned in 1991, for a purchase price between three and five million DM . The managing director is Han Groot Obbink.
The outer wall of the cooling tower was converted into a climbing wall . In addition, since 2009 it has housed a new large chain carousel called Vertical Swing , which weighs 25 tons and with its 58 m height towers over the edge of the tower; there is also a children's park with ten different attractions.
The Kalkar heliport is located on the northern part of the site . On the southern part there are six hotels including Hotel Charlotte, Hotel Rosalie, Hotel Barbara and Hotel Rosamunde as part of the resort. The hotels meet the DEHOGA 2-star standard.
