The Odessa nuclear power plant ( Ukrainian Одеса АЕС , Russian Одесская АЭС ) was to be built in the Ukraine (at that time still part of the Soviet Union ), 25 kilometers from the city of Odessa .

history

The power plant was to be equipped with two VVER-1000 and two TK-450-500 / 60 steam turbines per reactor. The first construction work had already started. It was to become the first large multi-purpose nuclear power plant for electricity and district heating in the Soviet Union. The maximum calculated output with which the nuclear power plant could heat the city of Odessa was estimated at 3489 MW in winter . The possible saving of fossil fuels has been estimated at four million tons. Several small boilers in the city could have been closed with the commissioning of the nuclear power plant.

The power plant was to be built 25 kilometers from Odessa near the town of Teplodar , which in turn resulted in the laying of many pipes, which was quite expensive. There were plans for further combined nuclear power plants with electricity and district heating production in Kharkiv , Minsk , Volgograd and other cities. Planning was discontinued after the Chernobyl disaster . Today there is a gas-powered heating power plant on the property.
