Teplodar (Ukrainian and Russian Теплодар ) is a city in southern Ukraine .
The place is located about 31 km west of Odessa near the Baraboj reservoir (Барабойське водосховище) and forms an independent unit within Odessa Oblast ( district-free city - city under oblast administration) and is completely enclosed by the Bilyayivka district .
The city was built from 1979 to 1986, since 1983 it has the status of a settlement, on January 1, 1997 it was given city status. It was built as a housing estate for the future workers of the Odessa nuclear power plant , which was to be built near the city. After the Chernobyl disaster , however, work on the power plant was discontinued and further construction of the residential buildings stopped. Today most of the people work in nearby Odessa.
