Ismajil Raion (Ukrainian Ізмаїльський район / Ismajilskykj rajon ; Russian Измаильский район / Ismailski rajon , Romanian Raionul Ismail ) is a raion (administrative district) in the southern Ukrainian Oblast of Odessa . The center of the Rajon is the city of Ismajil , which does not itself belong to the Rajon.
The Rajon, which has existed in a different form since 1856, was created in 1940 after the occupation of Bessarabia by the Soviet Union and was located in the Akkerman Oblast (from August 7, 1940, Ismajil Oblast ). In 1941, the area was once Romania joined, from 1944 it belonged to the recapture by the Red Army to the Ukrainian SSR . In 1954, Ismajil Oblast was dissolved and the Rajon became part of Odessa Oblast. Since 1991 it has been part of today's Ukraine .
The Rajon borders in the north on the Rajon Bolhrad , in the northeast for a short distance on the Rajon Arzys , in the east on the Rajon Kilija , in the south on Romania and in the west on the Jalpuhsee , the Kuhurluj -see and the Rajon Reni .
