Biljajiwka (Ukrainian Біляївка ; Russian Беляевка / Beljajewka ) is a city in southern Ukraine , about 39 kilometers west of Odessa . It is the center of the Rajons Bilyayivka (but even administratively same no part) and is located on the east bank of the river Turuntschuk .
It was founded in the 17th century by fleeing Zaporozhian Cossacks under the name Golowkivka , became an urban-type settlement in 1957 and has had town charter since 1975. Since January 27, 2016, the city has been under oblast administration instead of under Rajons administration as before.
In 1986 the Ukrainian national soccer player Kyrylo Kovalchuk was born in Biljajiwka .
