Ananjiw (Ukrainian Ананьїв ; Russian Ананьев / Ananjew , Romanian Ananiev or rarely Nani ) is a city in southern Ukraine , about 151 kilometers north of Odessa . It is the center of the Ananjiw Rajons and lies on the banks of the Tylihul River (Тилігул).
It was mentioned for the first time in 1753 as a Sloboda Anani , in 1834 it was renamed Ananjew / Ananjiw after the biblical person Ananias . Between 1924 and 1940 the place was a part of the Moldavian ASSR , after its dissolution it came to the Ukrainian SSR and got the city status in 1941. The city is surrounded to the west, south and east by the village of the same name .
