The nuclear power plant Paluel is located near the French community Paluel in the region Normandie in the Seine-Maritime . The nuclear power plant , which consists of four pressurized water reactors , is located about 40 kilometers from the city of Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) and six kilometers southwest of Saint-Valery-en-Caux , on the coast of the English Channel and employs around 1,250 people. The operator is the French company EDF . Water from the English Channel is used for cooling.
history
Construction of the first reactor block began on August 15, 1977, and went into operation on June 22, 1984. Between the years 1978 and 1980 the construction of three further reactor blocks began, which were then put into operation on September 4, 1984, September 30, 1985 and April 11, 1986.
power
The four pressurized water reactors each have a net output of 1,330 megawatts (MW) and a gross output of 1,382 MW. The total installed capacity is 5,528 MW, making the reactor unit one of the most powerful nuclear power plants in France (second place) and fifth place worldwide. It feeds an average of 32 billion kilowatt hours into the public power grid every year .
Incidents
In the past, seasonal algae formation in the English Channel blocked the water supply and there were several problems with the cooling of the system and thus the system's automatic shutdown. These extensive emergency shutdowns led to repair work on the components of the inlet and had an impact on the emergency cooling systems. In September 2009 a fire broke out on a generator in the non-nuclear part of the facility, which is why a reactor had to be shut down. On July 2, 2015, a fire broke out in a condenser, which was extinguished within 6 hours.
During the third ten-year maintenance on the second reactor block, an accident occurred on March 31, 2016. When replacing a 22 m high and 465 t heavy steam generator , it fell during transport on the concrete floor of the reactor building and damaged it. One person was injured. The restart was significantly delayed by the incident and did not take place until July 24, 2018.
Data of the reactor blocks
