Kerstin Cardon , actually: Kristina Mathilda Cardon (born August 17, 1843 in Stockholm ; † January 5, 1924 there ) was a Swedish painter .

Life

She received her basic training from her father, the lithographer Johan Cardon, and studied at the Royal Art Academy in Stockholm from 1864 to 1871 . She then went on study trips to Paris , London , Munich , Vienna , Italy and Holland .

From the 1860s Cardon participated in various exhibitions with still lifes and genre drawings , but she soon switched to portraiture . From 1875 to 1884 Cardon was a teacher for drawing at the high school for teachers in Stockholm. At the same time and continuously until 1911 she trained painters in her own studio, including Hilma af Klint . The people portrayed by her include Oskar II , Prince Gustav and the researcher Sven Hedin .
