Kettering is a town in southeast Tasmania, about 32 km south of Hobart . It is located on the D'Entrecasteaux Canal across from Bruny Island , to which a ferry service is available. In 2016, Kettering had 356 residents.

history

In 1792 Joseph Bruny d'Entrecasteaux discovered the area for the Europeans. North of Kettering is Oyster Cove , where the last Tasmanians were moved in 1847 after most of them perished on Flinders Island . In October 1868, the first post office called Little Oyster Cove was established, which was renamed Kettering in 1892 .

Today the inhabitants of Kettering live mainly from agriculture and fishing. In addition, tourism, which the ferry connection to Bruny Island brings with it, is playing an increasingly important role.
