Kevin Hal Reynolds (born January 17, 1952 in San Antonio , Texas ) is a retired American attorney and now a film director and screenwriter .

biography

Kevin Reynolds grew up in Waco, Texas, the oldest of four children. His father, Herbert H. Reynolds, was a professor of psychology at Baylor University and later became its dean in February 2000 . Reynolds was already involved in the theater during school and wrote his own plays.

At the request of his family, Reynolds initially decided against a career as an artist and began law study. After graduating, he worked as a lawyer in Austin . His specialty was franchise ; Reynolds also worked for the later Democratic governor of Texas, Mark White .

At the same time, he saved enough money to attend film classes at the University of Texas . His mentor , director Edward Dmytryk , who died in 1999 , helped him to study at the University of Southern California , so that Reynolds moved to Los Angeles in 1979 . Just a year later, in 1980, he wrote the screenplay for Proof , a 24-minute short film that also marks Reynolds' directorial debut.

Since then, Reynolds has directed numerous well-known independent feature films . Edward Dmytryk was his stepping stone to the director's chair, so he helped Kevin Costner to know so that he could realize Who Dances With Wolves . Both also directed Waterworld . Reynolds also worked with Costner on the 2012 mini-TV series Hatfields & McCoys and was nominated for an Emmy for directing.
