Dariusz Paweł Dziekanowski (born September 30, 1962 in Warsaw ) is a former Polish football player .

The striker and attacking midfielder Dariusz Dziekanowski began his football career at Polonia Warsaw , where he played until 1979. He made his debut in the Polish first division at Gwardia Warsaw , where he played from 1979 to 1983. He then moved to Widzew Łódź as the successor to Zbigniew Boniek , who had moved to Juventus Turin . However, the young striker could not live up to these expectations and switched to Legia Warsaw in 1985 , where he had his best time as a football player. He was here Polish runner-up, Polish cup winner and top scorer in the Polish league . In 1989 he ventured abroad and played, but without much success, for Celtic Glasgow . His second attempt to gain a foothold in a foreign league failed when he played for 1. FC Köln in 1994/95 . In the meantime he kept returning to the Polish first division and ended his career with Polonia Warsaw in 1997. Dziekanowski was considered to be the greatest talent for strikers in Poland in the 1980s, but was never able to achieve an international breakthrough.

In the Polish national soccer team , he made 63 appearances and scored 20 goals. He was in the Polish squad at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico .

After finishing his active career, he was a football commentator for Polish television. He has been the coach of the Polish junior national team since 2002 and after the 2006 World Cup he took on the post of assistant to the new Polish national trainer Leo Beenhakker .
