Mirosław Okoński (born December 8, 1958 in Koszalin ) is a former Polish football player .
Career
Mirosław Okoński started his career in Poland. He first played from 1969 to 1977 for the Polish second division club Gwardia Koszalin and then moved to the Ekstraklasa , the first Polish league, to Lech Posen . In 1980 he moved to the first division club Legia Warsaw , to play again for Lech Posen from 1982 to 1986. During his time in Poland, he was the top scorer once and the second best goalscorer in the league twice. In 1983 and 1984 he won the championship with Lech Posen. In 1982 and 1984 he also won the Polish Cup .
After Okoński had noticed the scouts from HSV as a dangerous striker of Lech Poznan, he moved in 1986 to about 700,000 German marks for Hamburger SV in the first Bundesliga . There he played 62 Bundesliga games and scored 15 goals in the following two seasons. Together with the team, he won the DFB Cup in 1987 , took second place in the Bundesliga and was in the game for the Supercup . He was considered a public favorite in Hamburg. When his alcohol problems were no longer hidden, and rehab failed because of his lack of cooperation, he was not given a new contract in Hamburg after two years.
In 1988 he moved to AEK Athens in the first Greek league . For this club he made 77 league games and scored 26 goals. In 1989 he became Greek champion with Athens. In the following years, his team took second and third place. In 1991 he moved to newly promoted FC Korinthos . For this club he played 18 times in the first division and scored four goals.
In 1992 he went back to Poland. There he played at various clubs. In 1993 he moved to Concordia Hamburg and in 1994 to Raspo Elmshorn in the 5th division before he let his career fade back in Poland.
In the last few years of his career, he has had recurring problems with alcohol and gambling. He gambled away most of his fortune in casinos. In Poland, after repeated driving under the influence of alcohol, Okoński was sentenced to fifteen months in prison instead of a fine of 7,000 zloty . Fans of his former club from Poznan collected the sum so that he could not go to prison. He later opened a pub in Poznan that went bankrupt. Most recently he worked as a salesman in his hometown of Koszalin in Pomerania .
Okoński played 29 games for the Polish national team , in which he scored two goals.
