Krzysztof Ireneusz Warzycha ( Greek: Κριστόφ Βαζέχα) (born November 17, 1964 in Katowice , Poland ) is a former Polish football player .

Career

Warzycha began his career at the Polish club Ruch Chorzów . In 1989, after winning the Polish championship, the player joined Panathinaikos Athens in Greece as the reigning top scorer in his country . At Panathinaikos, Warzycha fought for a regular place in the storm from the start and was able to collect a number of national titles and awards. Including five championships and five cup wins. During this time Warzycha rose to the public's favorite and remains one of the most popular athletes of all time in Greece for a large number of supporters of other teams.

On April 29, 2001 in a game against Ionikos Nikea Warzycha scored his 233rd goal in the Greek championship and closed up to Mimis Papaioannou , who was until then alone in second place on the all-time goalscorer list. At the end of the season, the player could look back on the outstanding rate of 235 hits in 352 championship encounters. Warzycha finished his career with 244 goals and is therefore next to his second place in the all-time best list of Greece's current record scorer of Panathinaikos.

In addition to his success in the Greek championship, Warzycha was also able to attract international attention. He had his best season in 1995/96, when he scored six goals in nine games in the UEFA Champions League and made it with his team to the semi-finals of the competition. During his career, Warzycha was also an integral part of the Polish national team , where he came on 50 appearances and nine goals.

In 1998, Krzysztof Warzycha, who retired from his career in the summer of 2004, was granted Greek citizenship in recognition of his achievements and contributions to Greek football .

In December 2009 he became assistant coach at Panathinaikos Athens .
