Ludwik Gintel (born September 26, 1899 in Kraków , † July 11, 1973 in Tel Aviv ) was a Polish football player in the service of Cracovia Kraków .
life and career
Ludwik Gintel was born in 1899 into a Jewish family in Krakow, which at that time still belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire . He began playing football in 1911 at Jutrzenka Kraków . In 1916, at the age of 17, he finally moved to Cracovia Krakow. Gintel should remain loyal to his new club until the end of his career. At Cracovia, Gintel, who was used as a striker, quickly established a regular place. From 1921 he was used in the national team of the now independent Poland and was in the national team's first game ever on the field. The game was lost 1-0 against Hungary . With Cracovia he also won the championship in 1921.
In 1924 he was with the national team at the Summer Olympics in Paris . At that time, the Polish football squad consisted mostly of players from the Kraków clubs, alongside Gintel, among others, Henryk Reyman , Leon Sperling and Józef Adamek . In the 1928 season he was the top scorer (28 goals) in the Polish Football League . Towards the end of his career, Gintel was finally a defender. In 1930 he ended his career as an active football player after winning the Polish championship a second time with Cracovia. By then, Sperling had played over 320 games for Cracovia and had played 12 games for the Polish national team.
After his football career he worked as an architect . He finally emigrated to Palestine and died in Tel Aviv in 1973 .
