North Harz Network

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A procurement network for local rail passenger transport was called the North Harz Network . It comprised the routes around Halberstadt and the Könnern – Bernburg route.

General

The center of the northern Harz network was the Halberstadt train station . It received modern platforms and an electronic signal box from which the entire Halberstadt – Vienenburg line is controlled. The route is regarded as a model public transport route for tilting technology , as is the Halberstadt – Halle (Saale) line, which was completed in the late 1990s.

The improvements prescribed by the state of Saxony-Anhalt were implemented step by step. Every hour in Halberstadt, the train from Magdeburg , which usually consisted of two multiple units, was split - one part of the train went to Thale , the other to Blankenburg or Goslar . The continuous connection Bernburg – Könnern – Halle (Saale) was also realized by adapting the DB Netz in the Könnern station .

Tender

In 2003 the North Harz Network was put out to tender for the first time by Nahverkehrsservice Sachsen-Anhalt (NASA). At the beginning of 2004, Transdev GmbH was awarded the contract by the state of Saxony-Anhalt . On December 11, 2005, it took over almost all of DB Regio Südost's traffic under the Harz-Elbe-Express brand with class 640 and 648 diesel multiple units . The transport contract with the state ran until December 2018. Since then, there have been minor changes to the offer for cost reasons, but also due to the ongoing expansion of the Magdeburg – Halberstadt line.

In June 2013 the local transport service Saxony-Anhalt put the Regional Express Halle-Goslar out to tender. In May 2014, Transdev was named as the winner. The contract was signed in January 2015. With this, Transdev took over the traffic on the only line RE 4 Halle – Goslar still operated by DB Regio.

The Saxony-Anhalt diesel network was put out to tender on December 19, 2014 . This also included the northern Harz network with all its lines, with all lines directly touching Halberstadt in Lot A and the Halle (Saale) –Könnern – Bernburg line in Lot B. On December 29, 2015, the local transport service Saxony-Anhalt (NASA) declared the train stroke for the "Saxony-Anhalt diesel network" with lots A and B to Abellio Rail Central Germany to be legally binding. The contract has a term of 14 years, starting in December 2018. 54 LINT 41 diesel multiple units (1648 series) will be used. As early as October 2018, Abellio took over some routes in advance operation.

Situation until December 2005

Magdeburg – Thale

Thale Central Station

In the Halberstadt – Thale section, the RE  5 and RB  60, which run every two hours, overlap at an hourly rate . At Quedlinburg station there was a transition to the trains of the RB 71 to Ballenstedt. Between Halberstadt and Magdeburg, the RE 5 line only stopped at Oschersleben (Bode) station . At the peak hours this line wrong hourly. All other stops were made accessible by the RB 60, which runs at least every two hours; it was compressed to an hourly cycle Monday – Friday. At the Nienhagen train station (near Halberstadt) there was a connection to the RB 61 trains from / to Dedeleben. The trains consisted of diesel locomotives of the 228 series, later the 218 series and up to four passenger cars. In the meantime, locomotives with double-deck cars also ran on the RE 5 . Most recently, until the timetable change on December 10, 2005, class 642 multiple units were used in double traction .

Halle (Saale) –Vienenburg

Vienenburg station (2002)

RE and RB trains ran between Halle (Saale) and Vienenburg every two hours. The RE 4 was introduced on May 28, 2000 as a continuous connection between Halle (Saale) and Hanover; due to the EXPO in Hanover, until October 2000 it only ran between Halle (Saale) and Hildesheim and without a stop in Bad Harzburg. In November 2000 the extension from / to Hanover took place and the stop in Bad Harzburg was established. Tilting railcars of the 612 series were used on the RE 4 line . Until the timetable change in December 200? you had to change trains on the RB trains in Halberstadt. The RB 65 ran between Halberstadt and Vienenburg with class 628 railcars and the RB 70 between Halberstadt and Halle (Saale). From Monday to Friday, the cycle on some sections of the route was reduced to an hourly cycle. These trains consisted of class 232 diesel locomotives and three or four passenger cars. At the timetable change in December 200? the lines RB 65 and RB 70 were connected in Halberstadt, push-pull trains from diesel locomotives of the 218 series and up to four passenger cars were used. Most recently, class 642 railcars were used until the timetable change on December 10, 2005.

Halberstadt – Königshütte

Rübelandbahn train (1995)

Until the timetable change in December 200? you had to change between the trains from / to Halberstadt and Elbingerode (Harz) at the Blankenburg (Harz) station . Between Halberstadt and Blankenburg (Harz) the RB 67 ran every hour with class 628 multiple units and between Blankenburg (Harz) and Königshütte (Harz) at least two hours the RB 68 with electric locomotives from the 171 series and one or two passenger cars. When the timetable changed in May 1999, rail traffic on the Elbingerode (Harz) –Königshütte (Harz) section was discontinued by the state. Since then, the trains of the RB 68 began / ended in Elbingerode (Harz). In December 200? push-pull trains, consisting of class 218 diesel locomotives and two or three passenger cars, made it unnecessary to change trains at Blankenburg (Harz) station. The trains ran as RB 67 continuously between Halberstadt and Elbingerode (Harz). However, they had to change the direction of travel twice, on the one hand in Blankenburg (Harz) and on the other hand in the hairpin in Michaelstein . Passenger traffic between Blankenburg (Harz) and Elbingerode (Harz) ended when the timetable changed on December 10, 2005. Since then, only freight trains and a few special trains to / from Rübeland have been running there.

Könnern – Bernburg

The trains on line RB 47 shuttled between Könnern and Bernburg at least every two hours and were connected to / from Halle (Saale) at Könnern station with the RE 4 and trains to Koethen and occasionally to Calbe (Saale) at Bernburg station . Most recently, up to the timetable change on December 10, 2005, predominantly class 771 railcars , occasionally also class 628, were used.

Quedlinburg – Aschersleben

Gernrode train station (Harz)

The RB 71 ran every two hours along the entire route, from Monday to Friday between Quedlinburg and Ballenstedt every hour from the timetable change in June 2001. At Quedlinburg station, there was a connection to the RE 5 and RB 60 trains to Halberstadt and Thale. In Aschersleben there was again a connection to the trains to Halle (Saale) and Dessau. In Frose, the trains always had to change the direction of travel in order to continue to Aschersleben or Ballenstedt. At the Gernrode (Harz) station there was a connection to the Selketalbahn trains . Most recently, up to the cessation of operations on January 31, 2004, mainly class 628 railcars and occasionally class 771 railcars as well. Today traffic is ensured by the state bus 240 (Quedlinburg – Ballenstedt – Aschersleben).

Heudeber-Danstedt-Osterwieck

The trains of the line RB 66 ran at least two hours and were connected to the RE 4 from / to Halle (Saale) at the Heudeber-Danstedt station. The last used, up to the cessation of operations on September 28, 2002, were class 771 railcars. Today, traffic is ensured by the state bus 210 (Halberstadt – Osterwieck – Vienenburg).

Nienhagen – Dedeleben

The Nienhagen – Dedeleben railway was the first branch line where passenger traffic was stopped. Most recently, the 771 series rail buses were used. The RB 61 line ran almost every two hours. A few trains went from / to Halberstadt, all others ended / started at Nienhagen station (b Halberstadt), where there was a connection to trains of the RB 60 to Magdeburg and Halberstadt. The last train left on March 31, 2000 because there were too many overhead structural defects on the route. An established rail replacement service was discontinued after a short time.

Situation since December 2005

Transdev started the traffic for the timetable change on December 11, 2005. The lines were then only equipped with the abbreviation HEX. With the exception of the Thale / Blankenburg (Harz) –Magdeburg connection, the HEX lines (regional trains) run at least two hours on the Halle (Saale) –Aschersleben – Halberstadt – Vienenburg and Bernburg – Könnern routes. The trains shuttled every hour between Halberstadt – Blankenburg (Harz). On the Thale – Magdeburg connection, trains ran every hour in the Thale – Halberstadt section and between Halberstadt and Magdeburg, HEX (Regional Express) and HEX (RegionalBahn) alternated. Both lines connected the two cities at least every hour. Due to the extensive construction work that had started in the Halberstadt area, the timetable concept had to be adapted. Only three platform edges were available at Halberstadt station .

After the construction work at Halberstadt station was completed, the HEX line Blankenburg (Harz) –Halberstadt was connected to the HEX line Thale – Magdeburg in Halberstadt at the timetable change on December 9, 2007. The trains ran between Halberstadt and Magdeburg with two coupled railcars, these were winged there so that the connection Blankenburg (Harz) - Magdeburg was possible without changing trains. The connection Halberstadt – Blankenburg (Harz) is only served every two hours at the weekend.

From the timetable change on December 11, 2008, the HEX line Bernburg – Könnern was linked to Halle (Saale). This made it unnecessary to change trains at the Könnern station. The connection was offered at least every two hours. Together with the HEX line Halberstadt – Halle (Saale), the trains between Könnern and Halle (Saale) ran every hour.

Since the timetable change on December 12, 2010, there are alternating connections between Goslar – Vienenburg – Wernigerode – Magdeburg and Blankenburg (Harz) –Magdeburg, every two hours. The trains on the HEX line (Regional Express) Thale – Magdeburg have been winged every hour at Halberstadt station since then. The connection between Thale and Magdeburg will continue to be served every hour.

Since the timetable change on December 9, 2012, the regional train between Halberstadt and Magdeburg only runs between Oschersleben (Bode) and Magdeburg. On working days from Monday to Friday even every hour. The HEX line Regional Express Thale – Halberstadt – Magdeburg therefore also stops between Oschersleben (Bode) and Halberstadt in Nienhagen (near Halberstadt) . The other stops in Groß Quenstedt , Krottorf and Hordorf were closed at the same time due to insufficient use.

With the timetable change on December 14, 2014, the RE connection Halle (Saale) - Hanover in Goslar was broken. Since then the RE 4 has been running between Halle (Saale) –Goslar in the eastern Harz and the RE 10 between Bad Harzburg - Goslar - Hanover in the western Harz . This resulted in an additional change in Goslar, but every hour on the Halberstadt – Goslar – Hanover route. In addition, uniform line numbers have been inserted so that the lines can be better distinguished.

With the timetable change on December 13, 2015, the train service between Halberstadt / Bernburg and Halle (Saale) was reorganized. The newly established HEX 24 line between Halberstadt and Halle (Saale) connects both cities together with the HEX 4 line every hour as a regional express. The HEX 47 line runs every hour between Könnern and Halle (Saale) during rush hour and serves all stops on the way, including the S-Bahn between Halle-Trotha and Halle Hauptbahnhof via Zoo . At the station Magdeburg-Buckau now all regional express maintain connections to / from Halberstadt.
