Gloria Elizabeth Reuben (born June 9, 1964 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian actress .

Life

Gloria Reuben is the youngest of six siblings. The daughter of a Jamaican gospel singer and architect, she was inspired by her mother and older brother Denis Simpson, a Broadway actor, to learn to play the piano and later study music theory , ballet and jazz at the Canadian Royal Conservatory in Toronto.

In 1996 the American weekly People named Gloria Reuben as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People . She has been married to the music producer Wayne Isaak since 1999.

Film, television and music

After graduating from high school, Gloria Reuben moved to Los Angeles and began working as an actress and model . She had her first appearance on television in 1985 with the children's program Polka Dot Door . She played her first major cinema roles in 1994 with Jean-Claude Van Damme in Timecop and a year later in Gegen die Zeit with Johnny Depp and Christopher Walken .

She became known worldwide for the role of Jeanie Boulet in the hit series Emergency Room , which she played from 1995 to 1999 - for her performance, Reuben was awarded for two Emmys (supporting actress in a drama series) and for the Golden Globe Awards ( best supporting actress ) and won five other awards. In the spring of 2006, she played US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in the theater production Stuff Happens by David Hare at The Public Theater in New York .

Her work as a film producer includes the feature films Padre Nuestro and Positive Voices: Women and HIV (both 2007) and Ice Grill (post-production, 2009). The first season of the drama series Raising the Bar , in which Reuben played the defense attorney Rosalind "Roz" Whitman, has been broadcast on the US cable network Turner Network Television (TNT) since September 1, 2008 .

In 2013, Reuben starred as Marina Perlata in the military science fiction series Falling Skies .

Charity work

Gloria Reuben supports the Waterkeeper Alliance and is particularly involved in various HIV / AIDS projects such as the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation , Planned Parenthood and Artists for a new South Africa (ANSA).
