Jesse Stone: In Doubt for the Defendant is the eighth episode of the TV film series Jesse Stone .

action

Police Chief William Butler and D'Angelo are killed by an explosion while they are on duty in their patrol car. Jesse Stone is then, initially provisionally, reappointed Police Chief of Paradise by City Councilor Carter Hanson, who is mourning his murdered son-in-law. Jesse has to investigate without his team: Luther Simpson works on his father's fishing boat and declares his intention to stay there, Rose Gammon has moved after their divorce. Money and drugs are found in the wreck of the patrol car, so that the killed police chief is suspected of bribery, drug trafficking and money laundering . Stone, however, is convinced of Butler's innocence and begins his investigation. With the help of Captain Healy, he quickly encounters inconsistencies. To what extent "Hasty" Hathaway and a suspected hit man are involved, Jesse only finds out when he sets a trap with the help of his girlfriend, Thelma Gleffey: The hit man is killed by Jesse, and Hasty can escape - he had in Butler's car planted a bomb when he was focusing his money laundering investigation on Hasty.

At the same time, Jesse Stone incidentally finds out through a conversation with Gino Fish's new assistant that Fish is not the "boss", but has one himself. This puts Hasty's role in a different light and explains how, after serving his sentence, he was able to open a used car dealership with high-quality cars and gain new wealth. Jesse's relationship with Thelma Gleffey has stabilized, he also seems much less to drink and his ex-wife got over being. In the final scene, Luther reports to Jesse Stone in his police uniform and indicates that Rose Gammon will also return to work.

Charisma

The original first broadcast of the television film took place in May 2012 on the American television channel CBS . The film was first shown on German-language television in 2014. In the repetitions on various German-language television channels, In Doubt is usually broadcast as the eighth film in chronological order for the accused .

background

The plot of the eighth film in the series is set after Lost Innocence and before Lost in Paradise . The characters known from the previous episodes of Molly Crane, Captain Healy, Dr. Dix and Dr. Perkins and Molly Crane only play a supporting role in this episode, respectively no longer appear.

After his divorce and his discharge for drunkenness on duty with the homicide squad of the Los Angeles Police Department , Jesse Stone finds his last job as police chief in Paradise, Massachusetts , a small and apparently quiet port town in New England not far from Boston . Despite his drinking problems, he is elected by the city council as the new chief of police. However, it quickly turns out that life in Paradise is by no means as heavenly and non-violent as Jesse Stone had hoped, and that the majority of the city council was persuaded by the 'businessman' and former banker Hastings "Hasty" Hathaway to choose Stone because he likes him . Jesse Stone is the boss of a small team: Molly Crane, Rose Gammon since Alte Wunden , and Luther "Suitcase" Simpson, who quickly overcome their suspicions of the supposedly stubborn but jovial alcoholic and become friends, as well as Anthony D'Angelo, who had expected it to be appointed chief of police. The city council tries again and again to interfere in the work of its new police chief, so that the relationship is very tense from the beginning and only normalizes with the eighth and last episode of the television series.

Captain Healy, the head of the Massachusetts State Homicide Division, becomes a friend of the police chief, as does Dr. Dix, psychiatrist and former cop with alcohol problems, and the pediatrician Dr. Perkins, who is named local medical examiner by Jesse Stone. Other recurring and storyline characters include Jesse Stone's ex-wife Jenn, whom he stayed in touch with over the phone, seedy businessman Gino Fish, and sister Mary John, a nun who advocates for young women and has a list of good and bad People leads.

The plot of the nine feature films made between 2005 and 2015 partly follows the novels of Robert B. Parker only very loosely ; Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise aired in America on October 18, 2015 .

criticism

"Jesse Stone, played by Tom Selleck, solves his eighth case with confidence - equipped as always with his rough charm and a few glasses of whiskey."
