Jesse Stone: Thin Ice is the fifth episode of the nine-part television film series Jesse Stone .

Plot (summary)

Jesse Stone is believed to be involved in a shadowing case of Captain Healy when both are shot by an unknown in Healy's car. Captain Healy is admitted to a Boston hospital seriously injured, Jesse is injured in the shoulder, and he believes he hit the stranger with his service weapon. Healy's recovery continues, and Jesse begins investigating on his own and once again enlists Gino Fish's help. Fish has few scruples, but hates child prostitution and dislikes men who beat women, so Jesse receives a helpful tip that leads him to Sister Mary John, who names three "candidates" whom Fish narrow down to one. Jesse, with the help of Luther Simpsons, sets a trap for the criminal who has been released on parole, overpowers him and, through the Boston police, gives him an anonymous tip to take him out of circulation. Before that happens, Jesse Stone becomes the target of an internal police investigation into excessive use of firearms and exceeding his competencies, with which Jesse's new girlfriend appears.

At the same time, the mother of a kidnapped little boy reports after receiving a postcard from Paradise with the brief message Your son is loved ; Baby Blue was abducted from a hospital and is believed to have been found dead in New Mexico years ago shortly after his abduction, according to an extremely negligent police investigation. Rose, who advocates further investigation, Luther and Jesse discover that the child was kidnapped from the hospital by a then drug addict young woman whose son died in childbed. Then she led a regular life in Paradise again. What they overlooked during their investigation: The boy had a fatal accident two years ago, which is why the kidnapper wanted to comfort his mother with the card.

In the subplot, Jesse Stone is still in telephone contact with his wife, but breaks him off and is a friend to his psychiatrist when he needs someone to talk to. His friendship with Captain Healy deepens during his convalescence and Jesse learns why he was needed for the supposed shadowing. D'Angelo has resigned, and the relationship with the city council has therefore deteriorated further. In the final scene Luther reads to Jesse from a telegram that the police chief has been suspended from duty without payment until the investigation is complete - Jesse is traveling to New Mexico on the bus.

Charisma

The original first broadcast of the television film took place on March 1, 2009 on the American television channel CBS . The film was first shown on German-speaking television on October 24, 2010. In the reruns on various German-language TV channels, Dünnes Eis is usually broadcast as the fifth film in chronological order.

background

The plot of the fifth film in the series is somewhere between old wounds and no regrets . Molly Crane became a mother, D'Angelo and Dr. Perkins only have a supporting role in this episode or do not appear. Hasty , the previous fourth city councilor, still has to serve his sentence in prison in this episode.

After his divorce and his discharge for drunkenness on duty with the homicide squad of the Los Angeles Police Department , Jesse Stone finds his last job as police chief in Paradise, Massachusetts , a small and apparently quiet port town in New England not far from Boston . Despite his drinking problems, he is elected by the city council as the new chief of police. However, it quickly turns out that life in Paradise is by no means as heavenly and non-violent as Jesse Stone had hoped, and that the majority of the city council was persuaded by the 'businessman' and former banker Hastings "Hasty" Hathaway to choose Stone because he likes him .

Jesse Stone is the boss of a small team: Molly Crane, later Rose Gammon, and Luther "Suitcase" Simpson, who quickly overcome their distrust of the supposedly stubborn but jovial alcoholic and become friends, as well as Anthony D'Angelo, who had expected to be Police chief to be appointed. The city council tries again and again to interfere in the work of its new police chief, so that the relationship is very tense from the start and only stabilizes with the eighth and last episode of the television series.

Captain Healy, the head of the Massachusetts State Homicide Division, becomes a friend of the police chief, as does Dr. Dix, psychiatrist and former cop with alcohol problems, and Dr. Perkins, a pediatrician, was appointed local coroner by Jesse Stone. Other recurring and storyline characters include Jesse Stone's ex-wife Jenn, whom he stayed in touch with over the phone, seedy businessman Gino Fish, and sister Mary John, a nun who advocates for young women and has a list of good and bad People leads.

The plot of the nine feature films made between 2005 and 2015 partly follows the novels of Robert B. Parker only very loosely ; in September 2015 the release of Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise was realized (in Germany in August 2019).
