Prince Chalid is the eldest son of Prince Sultan ibn Abd al-Aziz and the first wife of Princess Munira Bint Abdul Aziz Bin Musaid Bin Jiluwi Al-Saud . In connection with his date of birth, that of his younger half-brother, Prince Bandar, is incorrectly given as May 2, 1949. But he was not born until 1950. Prince Chalid has three biological brothers: Prince Faisal, Prince Fahd and Prince Turki, and five biological sisters. He spent his childhood in the care of his father, who saw him as his successor in the Ministry of Defense. Khalid studied at the King Saud University in Riyadh . In 1968 he graduated from the Sandhurst Military Academy in Great Britain. He was then trained in flight courses in Texas and received a master's degree in military science from Fort Leavenworth , Kansas in 1979 . In 1980 he graduated with a Masters in Political Science from Auburn University in Montgomery , Alabama .

Position in Saudi domestic politics

Khalid, son of Prince Sultan, 2nd Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, could become King of Saudi Arabia as the grandson of the founder of the state, King Abdul Aziz. His half-brother Bandar is his fiercest competitor in his ambitions to succeed to the throne. In assessing his sons, Prince Sultan emphasizes Khalid's military talent, and his son Bandar's diplomatic talent. This leads to the fact that the half-brothers are competitors on the political level. Chalid is the favorite for Prince Sultan while Bandar was valued higher by King Fahd.

The disempowerment of Khalid by King Fahd strengthened Bandar's position. Prince Sultan's desire to install Chalid as his successor in the Department of Defense is also supported by the United States. Chalid is considered one of the greatest supporters of friendship and alliance with the United States.

Chalid has been Assistant Minister for Defense since January 19, 2001 .
