Khamoshi: The Musical ( Hindi , lit .: silence: the musical ) is a Bollywood film from 1996 .
It is the directorial debut of Sanjay Leela Bhansali .
action
Annie ( Manisha Koirala ) lives in Goa with her deaf and dumb parents - Joseph and Flavy Braganza ( Nana Patekar , Seema Biswas ) - and their younger brother Sam . Annie's grandmother Maria ( Helen ) teaches her to play the piano, and the music fills the house. One day when the family visits church, Sam falls off the bell tower and dies. That day Joseph loses his faith in God. In his grief, he sells the piano and thus brings silence into Annie's life. Years later Annie meets a young composer Raj ( Salman Khan ), through whom she gets closer to music again. Raj dreams of making Annie a singer, but her parents refuse to let the music return to their grieving house. They're also scared of losing Annie because she's their only connection to the world of sound. Annie also knows how helpless Joseph and Flavy are without them, so the thought of leaving the house to lead a life of their own is unbearable for them. But the love for Raj and for music is stronger than any fears, and Annie is preparing for her first concert. When Joseph and Flavy attend the concert, they discover for themselves the music that they cannot hear. When Raj asks for Annie's hand, Joseph first has to fight with himself, but then he agrees. After the engagement, Raj drives away, but promises to return as soon as possible. Annie is waiting for him, but the wait is too long and she is scared that she will never see him again. When Joseph learns that his daughter is pregnant, he throws her out of the house. But then Raj finally returns and marries Annie. But Joseph does not want to forgive him for his long absence. After having a son, Annie and Raj visit Annie's parents for the first time after the wedding. Joseph is reconciled with Raj and gives a moving "speech" when his grandson is baptized.
