Saawariya ( Hindi : सावरिया, sāvariyā ; lit. translation: "Beloved" ) is a feature film by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali from 2007. The filmmaker has previously staged several commercial successes such as Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Devdas ( 2002) and Black (2005). The story White Nights by Fyodor Dostoevsky from 1848 served Saawariya as a literary model and, by and large, the structure was retained.
action
Ranbir Raj, a free, spirited idealist and dreamer, comes to a dreamy city where he appears as a singer in the club "RK". Here he befriends the prostitute Gulabji. She passes him on to old Lilian, with whom he finds accommodation. Because of his naivety, he doesn't have much chance in the club. One night he meets a mysterious girl with an umbrella alone on a bridge. When he tries to start a conversation with her, she runs away. But he doesn't give up and eventually they become friends.
Just as Raj is about to confess his true feelings for her, she shows him the reason for her misfortune: She is waiting for her love, Imaan. Imaan left her a year ago and promised to meet her again on this bridge. She has been waiting for him ever since. Nevertheless, Raj confesses his love for her. At first she resists, but gradually her love begins to take shape. But after just a few moments in which the two spend beautiful moments, Imaan comes. Sakina seems to have completely forgotten the strong love she felt for Raj and goes back to Imaan.
Raj recognizes her happiness and tells her that he only lives in the few moments that he has spent with her. After a tearful goodbye, Sakina leaves Raj with her Imaan.
