The Kharut Kangri is a mountain in the Karakoram on the Pakistani - Chinese border.
Location and summit
In the north, the Skyang La ( Windy Gap ) mountain pass , which is 5925 m high, separates the actual Kharut Kangri from the Skyang Kangri . The actual Kharut Kangri has three peaks: Kharut Kangri III (north peak) ( 6806 m or 6760 m ⊙ ), Kharut Kangri I (main peak) ( 6913 m ) and Kharut Kangri II (middle peak) ( 6805 m ⊙ ). South of Kharut Kangri II, the ridge drops to the 6080 m high (Vittorio) Sella pass . Beyond this pass is the so-called Kharut pyramid ( ⊙ ) with 6444 m . The ridge continues to climb to the 6942 m (or 6934 m ) high south summit . However, due to a notch height of only 402 m, this is considered a secondary peak of the eight-thousander Broad Peak in the southwest .
The Godwin Austen Glacier flows along the northwest flank of the Kharut Kangri. On its northeast flank lies the Kharut Glacier , in the east the Northern Gasherbrum Glacier .
Ascent history
In 2005 the main and the south peaks of Kharut Kangri were still unclimbed.
