Kia Asamiya

Kia Asamiya ( Japanese 麻 宮 騎 亜 , Asamiya Kia ; born January 28, 1963 in Kitakami , Japan ) is a Japanese mangaka . According to his own statement, Kia Asamiya is a stage name, his real name is Michitaka Kikuchi (Japanese 菊池 通 隆 , Kikuchi Michitaka ). He works on anime productions under his real name, whereas he mainly uses his pseudonym for his manga.

He started drawing manga at the age of 17. He later studied art and design at the Designer School in Tokyo. With Shinseiki Vagrants , the first manga appeared in 1986, for which he made the drawings. His drawing style was also very different from today's appearance. He only had the real breakthrough when he published his first own story two years later with the cyberpunk saga Silent Möbius . The series became one of the greatest manga hits of the early 1990s and made Asamiya famous practically overnight. Silent Möbius has meanwhile been marketed worldwide, only in Germany the hoped-for success failed to materialize.

Asamiya was able to build on its success and other well-known series such as Dark Angel or Steam Detectives followed .

In the meantime he also worked in the USA, which was clearly noticeable in his style. However, there have been no major projects since the turn of the millennium and the stagnation of the manga market in Japan. After the failure of Silent Möbius, further Asamiya publications in Germany are not to be expected at the moment .
