Kilcreggan is a small town in a sparsely populated region of the Scottish Council Area Argyll and Bute . It lies on the banks of the Firth of Clyde across from Gourock and Greenock at the head of the Rosneath Peninsula . Together with the neighboring community of Cove to the northwest , it marks the entrance to Loch Long . Helensburgh is about six kilometers northeast. Together with Cove, there were 876 people in Kilcreggan in 1961. By 2001 this number had increased to 1,414.
The village developed as a weekend and holiday resort, which can be quickly reached from Glasgow via the port of Gourock. This ferry service, which ends right at the Kilcreggan jetty, still exists today. The crossing from Gourock takes twelve minutes. There is also a regular ferry service between Kilcreggan and Helensburgh. The crossing takes about 15 minutes. Kilcreggan is connected to the road network by the B833 which runs largely along the coast of Rosneath. In the village there is the Villa Glen Eden, a monument of the highest Scottish monument category A. Knockderry Castle is about five kilometers northwest in Cove.
