Kilian Joseph Fischer

Kilian Joseph Fischer (born August 24, 1782 in Ebelsbach , † December 1, 1848 in Bamberg ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Kilian Joseph Fischer attended grammar school in Bamberg and then studied philosophy at the same place. He finished his studies with distinction in 1799 at the age of 17 and obtained a doctorate in philosophy as Primus inter pares in general sciences. He then studied theology and philology at the University of Würzburg until 1804, and he continued to learn oriental languages ​​and Italian. At the age of 23 he was ordained a priest in 1805 and then worked as a chaplain, initially in Karlburg and later in Ochsenfurt . In 1809 he became a tutorof the theological disciplines in the spiritual seminary in Würzburg, where he taught as a professor of exegesis and oriental languages.

Due to his numerous lectures and his academic reputation, he received offers from the universities of Bonn , Freiburg and Breslau to teach at their institutions. However, he turned down all offers.

In September 1835, already in retirement, he was appointed Cathedral Chapter in Bamberg. He thus succeeded the late cathedral capitular Joseph Karl. At the same time he gave lectures on oriental languages ​​and biblical exegesis at the Bamberg Royal Lyceum .
